At the ‘PLM/DX Best Practice Conference’ held on June 20 at COEX, InnoFactory, Inc. presented a design automation project built on PTC Windchill and Creo, carried out together with FURSYS Holdings.
FURSYS’s Shift to Made-To-Order (MTO) Production Makes Design Automation a Core Challenge
At the conference, Yeonseok Jeong, Head of the DT Promotion Team at FURSYS Holdings, presented on “design automation,” sharing the real-world challenges his team faced and how they were addressed.

FURSYS has long supplied a wide variety of made-to-order products through an integrated design-and-manufacturing model. As its product range and part structures grew more complex, it became difficult to run stable customer-specific production without redesigning the link between design and manufacturing at the system level.
FURSYS pursued this project not simply to adopt new technology, but to transform how it manufactures. Rather than mass-producing to fixed specifications, FURSYS chose to shift to a Made-To-Order (MTO) structure, where design and assembly change dynamically based on each customer’s requirements. To support this, FURSYS undertook a company-wide digital redesign centered on its PLM system, PTC Windchill.

Using PTC Creo as its design tool, FURSYS models product shapes and assembly structures according to each customer’s order specifications. The resulting design data is transferred to its PLM system, PTC Windchill, driving a pipeline that spans approval, structuring, BOM generation, distribution, and ERP integration. The conference also introduced the second-phase PLM project, which redesigned this pipeline to better match real-world design workflows.

Three Core Roles InnoFactory Played
In FURSYS’s PLM improvement project, InnoFactory went beyond routine maintenance, restructuring the data flow from design through production around PTC Windchill and building a collaboration environment for designers, production staff, and data managers.
1. Designing PLM-ERP Integration and Restructuring Data Flow
- Reorganized data flow and integration logic within Windchill so design BOMs expand automatically based on approval conditions and sync to ERP
- Designed JSON/XML-based data transformation and transmission structures
- Built a system for tracking ERP transmission history and handling errors
2. Restructuring Design Data and Improving the UI
- Improved automatic part-structure sorting and list views
- Consolidated key information such as design change history and transmission status into a single view
- Streamlined designers’ repetitive work through editor improvements and part-image integration
3. Integrating Business Processes and Streamlining Document Flow
- Designed workflows and interfaces linking the EP, ECO, and ECN processes
- Added automation and list management features for document expansion, registration, and distribution stages
Solving FURSYS’s challenges required more than adding features to existing processes — it required analyzing how users actually worked and reflecting that workflow directly in the system. InnoFactory designed a PLM system that operates within FURSYS’s real design and production processes, acting as a digital transformation partner grounded in the realities of the field.
Digital Transformation Means Changing How Work Gets Done
This project embodies the core manufacturing-innovation concepts of Digital Twin and Digital Thread. In this structure, a customer’s chosen specifications become the product’s design definition, which then flows seamlessly through design, PLM, ERP, and production — enabling real-time management of product knowledge and operational continuity.
